Scholarships

The CUPBAA Scholarship is a financial award given annually to a member of the Clarkson University Pep Band who demonstrates exceptional pep band spirit and heart as well as financial need and academic promise.

The seeds of the scholarship were sown in April 2005 at the first official meeting of what would later become the Clarkson University Pep Band Alumni Association. The scholarship idea was initially considered to be a long term goal of the fledgling organization, so it was set aside for a few years to allow the organization to become formally established.

By late 2009, we began researching scholarship fund options available through the University. At our annual meeting in February 2010, we announced our goal of awarding our first scholarship in July 2014 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Pep Band. We unveiled our plan to raise $25,000 and create an endowed scholarship fund so that the scholarship could be awarded in perpetuity. The CUPBAA Scholarship Fund was formally established with its first donation in July 2010.

As promised, we presented our first scholarship award at the Clarkson Pep Band’s 50th Anniversary celebration on campus in July 2014. Colin Stutz ’16 became the first recipient of the CUPBAA Scholarship, the first of seven such awards to date, totaling over $10,300. Recipients are shown below:

The CUPBAA Scholarship is important because it helps us to fulfill one of our core purposes – to support the Clarkson Pep Band – in a very tangible way. The Clarkson Pep Band gave our alumni so many fond memories and so many opportunities for personal growth when we were students. It is important for us to give back by helping future generations of students have the same opportunities, particularly those who share our passion for music and hockey.

CUPBAA has generated income for the Scholarship Fund through various fundraisers, most notably our annual CUPBAA Scholarship Golf Tournament. By participating in the tournament or sponsoring a hole, you can help contribute to the future of a Clarkson Pep Band member.
